On Sunday 6 July, the lush grounds of Maisons-Laffitte Racecourse are taken over by picnic lovers.
The rural setting helps generate an old-worldly atmosphere heightened by barbecues, open-air dances, street artists and family fun.
Those most inspired by the soft light on the banks of the Seine so appreciated by the Impressionists take part in the painting competition on the theme of the racehorse. At around 5pm, the creators of the four best pieces are presented with awards following the deliberations of a panel made up of professionals from the art world and Maisons-Laffitte town councillors.
These activities are in perfect keeping with this day of sport on which the bill-toppers are the cream of the current thoroughbred generation.
The Prix du Bois offers an opportunity to see the very best 2-year-olds in action, while the Prix Chloé serves as a showcase for 3-year-old fillies. These two pieces de resistance are surrounded by six other equally captivating contests.
