Maisons-Laffitte racecourse is the only flat racecourse in the Parisian region on which the rail can be on the right or the left hand side during the same race meeting. Its particularly long home straight, the longest in Europe alongside Newmarket, measures over 2,000m (1 mile and 2 furlongs) and makes this an extremely selective racecourse. The Maisons-Laffitte estate also has a training centre that can receive around 700 horses per day. The horses are trained on over 130 hectares of turf, sand and dirt tracks, meaning that they can still be exercised in harsh winter conditions. The centre also has over 110 jumps on sand and turf, including certain reproductions of the jumps from Auteuil racecourse.
